Dug Meat by Tough Boys
Dug Meat is a work about the inevitable, it is a nihilistic take on our
future.
Beginning as a reaction to the burning hot summer of 2022, the work has
become a continual questioning of what is left of our humanness in this
post-capitalist system.
Set within a sub-human dystopia, this cyclical study dances between the
sticky walls of the queer underworlds, and the barren wasteland of a
future hellscape. Investigating what draws us together as a generation
in the face of the current political and ecological crisis, we are
imagining what we might become, platforming the power within
collectivity and pouring into a shared catharsis.
Posed as a collection of episodic fragments, the movement draws from
contemporary physicalities and hip hop theatre. We’ve worked with our
dancers to develop a synaptic and visceral movement language that sees
the human devolve into the dog, the slug and the corpse.
“the timely aesthetic of dancing in the ruins of the collapsing capital”
- Researcher and Raver McKenzie Wark.
Iterations of the work have been presented at a variety of theatres across London including the Place Theatre, Horse Hospital and Sadler’s Wells Main Stage. DUG MEAT has been described as "staggering” and “trance-like” - Sara Veale, and is said to be “a raw, animalistic spectacle” - Sophie Visscher.
