O zero by Yuko Hashimoto
O zero is a dance film that reimagines a live dance work through the medium of cinema. Developed through a process of somatic inquiry involving a pregnant choreographer and a pair of identical twin dancers, the work explores how human life first emerges and how our earliest relationships are formed within the womb. Inspired by embodied experiences of pregnancy and the shared prenatal experience of identical twins, the creative process drew upon somatic exploration as a means of accessing lived bodily knowledge and generating movement material. Rather than presenting the body as an object of visual consumption, the film foregrounds the lived, sensing, and relational body. Through cinematic framing, editing, and proximity, O zero makes perceptible subtle layers of bodily experience and interaction that often remain beyond ordinary sight. Drawing on LBMS concepts such as Territory and Effort, the film investigates the dynamic relationships between self and other, body and space, and individuality and interconnectedness. Rather than positioning the viewer as a detached observer, O zero engages the audience’s somatic awareness, inviting viewers to encounter the work through their own embodied experience rather than solely through vision. In this way, the film explores forms of corporeality that exceed representation and opens a space for alternative modes of perception grounded in relational and sensory experience.
